Overview

Remoto Playback allows the same Remoto account to stay signed in on more than one device at once — for example Desktop in the studio and Web on a laptop.

When you sign in and Remoto detects that this account is already signed in elsewhere, the app shows an Already signed in elsewhere dialog. You must choose how to continue on this device before you can proceed.

This is always the same account. It is not access to someone else’s login. The choice only controls what this device is allowed to do while your other sign-in remains (or is signed out).

The dialog can appear when signing in on:

  • Playback Desktop
  • Web (including web-access / dashboard sign-in)
  • Playback Mobile
  • Apple TV

What Remoto is detecting

Remoto detects another signed-in copy of your account on a Playback client (Desktop, Web, Mobile, or Apple TV).

The dialog may show one of two situations:

Live session elsewhere

If your account is already in a live session on the other device, the dialog includes details such as:

  • Session name
  • Session state
  • Start time
  • Organizer name

Use this to confirm which session would be affected if you take over.

No live session elsewhere

If your account is signed in elsewhere but not in a live session, the dialog still appears, with simpler wording that work on the other device may be lost if you continue here.

Select Role dialog (Organizer rights + live session)

When you have Organizer rights and there is a live session on the other device, you see the Select Role version of Already signed in elsewhere, with these choices:

Force Log Out on Other Device

What it means
Sign out the other device and continue here with full Organizer/Guest permissions.

What happens

  • The other device is signed out and returned to Sign In.
  • The in-progress stream stops; guests remain in the video call.
  • Desktop: You can rejoin the session here.
  • Web: The call remains active until you return to the other device to end the session.
  • That device may show a message that the account was claimed by another device.
  • This device continues with full access (schedule, host, Studio, stream settings, etc.).
  • Other devices already in scheduling mode are not signed out; they may see a notice that Organizer/Guest controls moved to a new device.

When to use it

  • You need to host, join, or control a session on this device.
  • You are moving from one machine to another and want this machine to be primary.
  • You intentionally want to take full control away from the other sign-in.

Caution: If someone is mid-session on the other device, Force Log Out will interrupt the stream for this account on that device.

Proceed in Scheduling Mode

What it means
Keep the other device signed in (including a live session if one is running) and continue here in scheduling mode with limited access.

What happens

  • This device enters scheduling mode.
  • The other full-access device keeps running.
  • The other device may show that the account signed in elsewhere in scheduling mode.
  • You can use the dashboard for upcoming-session work only.

In scheduling mode, you can

  • Create sessions (including Quick/Instant Session when presets exist)
  • Edit schedule details for Draft or Ready sessions (name, timing, guests, notifications)
  • Manage your contact list
  • Update your user profile and subscription

In scheduling mode, you cannot

  • Start or end a session
  • Open Studio or join a live session (as Organizer or Guest)
  • Change stream settings or preferences
  • Edit or delete a session that has already started

If a session is already live on your other device, tools like Studio, Start, End Session, and Join Session stay blocked on this device.

Schedule and guest changes made in scheduling mode sync with your other signed-in devices in real time.

When to use it

  • A live session (or full Organizer work) is already running on another machine.
  • You only need to schedule or edit upcoming sessions, invites, or contacts from this device.
  • A shared studio login needs a second machine for scheduling without kicking the host.

Cancel

What it means
Close this dialog and return to the Sign In screen.

What happens

  • No takeover occurs.
  • Scheduling mode is not started on this device.
  • The other active instance is unchanged.

Confirm Takeover dialog (Cancel / Continue)

In some cases Remoto shows a simpler Already signed in elsewhere dialog with only:

  • Continue — sign out the other device and continue here
  • Cancel — return to Sign In

This appears when:

  • You are Guest-only / do not have Organizer rights (including when a live session is running elsewhere), or
  • You have Organizer rights but there is no live session on the other device

There is no Proceed in Scheduling Mode option in that dialog.

Choosing the right option

Situation Choose
Host, control, or join a session on this device Force Log Out on Other Device (or Continue on Confirm Takeover)
Keep the other device running; only manage upcoming sessions here Proceed in Scheduling Mode
Don’t continue on this device Cancel
