What is the session state?
This column displays one of 5 states: “Draft”, “Ready,” “Started,” and “Finished.”
Can I edit the session after I save it?
Yes, you can edit the session after you save it. You can edit session details by clicking on the name of the session in either the Dashboard or Studio view, or you can modify Session Settings by clicking on either “Edit Session Details 1 of 1: Schedule” or ”Edit Session Details 1 of 2: Stream Settings" respectively in the Dashboard, or the gear icon next to the session name in Studio view.
How can I delete a session?
A streaming session can be deleted in a few ways:
A) From the Session Details window (Click on the Session Name in the Dashboard), click on the trashcan button in the lower left
B) From Dashboard view, click on the “Delete” button under the Actions column (session must be over).
C) From the hamburger menu in the actions column, click on “Delete”.
Once a session has been deleted, it will disappear from the Dashboard. This can not be undone.
Sessions will automatically be removed from Guest dashboards once the session is finished.
Which Stream Settings are required to start a session in Playback?
Streaming, Audio, Video and Timecoded Markers settings are required to start a session in Playback. You can configure them by clicking on their respective tabs in the “Edit Session Details 2 of 2: Stream Settings” pop-up window, accessible from the “Stream Settings” button in the Edit Session dashboard column.
How do I configure screen capture settings in Playback?
To configure screen capture settings in Playback, click on the “Stream Settings” button in the Edit Session dashboard column to bring up “Edit Session Details 2 of 2: Stream Settings. Click on the “Video” tab, and select ”Screen Capture" from the Video Input Type dropdown. You can choose a frame rate, select the screen area which will be streamed, and identify or edit the selected screen area.
What is the difference between the different Streaming Settings?
Streaming Settings are found under the “Streaming” tab in Edit Session Details 2 of 2: Stream Settings. These control how Participants view the stream: either via the desktop app only (Desktop Only) or both desktop and web browser (Desktop & Web). Desktop & Web is recommended so Participants can join through either platform. Organizers must always use the desktop app.
Key Differences:
- Desktop Only: Supports up to 16 OPUS audio channels and enables Timecoded Markers for Guests.
- Desktop & Web: Supports up to 6 AAC audio channels; web users receive a stereo mixdown. Timecoded Markers can only be added by the Organizer—Guests using the desktop app cannot.
What FPS should I use?
FPS should always match your source material if possible. If you are using “stream from application” or a “Screen Capture” option and are unable to determine the fps of the source, it’s suggested to se 24 fps.
How do I start streaming media files in Playback?
To start streaming, click “Start Stream” in the Playback Studio. Click on the "Play" button in your NLE/DAW or source to start the content. There is no transport control in Playback.
How do I stop or pause streaming media files in Playback?
To stop or pause streaming, click on the “Stop/Pause” button in the NLE/DAW to pause the content. If you need to pause or stop the stream in Playback without pausing the actual content, click “Stop Stream”. You may need to do this to change a Session Setting.
Who controls media playback, the DAW/NLE, or Playback?
There is no transport control within Playback. Playback is controlled from the source DAW or NLE by the session Organizer.
Can a Guest scroll back to a specific point on the media timeline to show others, or must they ask the Organizer to do it?
Playback is a real time media streaming solution. As such, it’s not possible to pause the stream/media without the session Organizer doing so from the host DAW or NLE.
Can I start a session before the session start time?
A session can be started before its scheduled time. Once a session is started (note: this is different from starting the stream), the session timer begins and will end when the allotted time is reached. If you have a subscription, you can start or end the session outside the scheduled window, and the time used will count against your monthly hourly allotment based on your subscription plan.
How does Playback handle Mixdowns/Downmixing?
Downmixing is performed as to the specifications of the streaming format. For more information, please see RFC 7845.
What happens if I’m streaming and running out of time with my subscription?
If you’re streaming and your subscription time is nearly up, a countdown will appear when 15 minutes remain in your subsciption, along with a message notifying you that the session will end soon. You’ll have three options:
Go To Store – Upgrade your subscription to extend the session.
Refresh – After upgrading, click this to continue streaming.
Close – Dismisses the message. If no action is taken, the stream will stop once time runs out, but the session and video conferencing will remain active for an additional 15 minutes.
Upgrading is the only way to extend a streaming session beyond your subscription limit.
What happens if I am running out of time in a one-time session and I need to keep working?
One-Time sessions can be extended in two ways: Automatic Extension or On-Demand Extension. Both options double the session's original duration and charge an additional session fee to the payment method on file.
1. Automatic Extension
If the “Allow automatic extension” toggle is enabled when scheduling the session (enabled by default), the session will automatically extend once the time limit is reached.
A notice appears 15 minutes before the end, followed by an automatic charge 2 minutes before the session ends.
If the payment succeeds, the session continues seamlessly.
If the payment fails, you’ll be prompted to update your payment method and retry.
2. On-Demand Extension
If automatic extension is turned off, a prompt will appear 15 minutes before the session ends:
"You've almost reached your session time limit. This session will end in 14:49 minutes." [Extend / Close]
Extend will charge for another session and allow you to continue working.
Close ends the stream when time runs out, but the session and video call remain active for 15 additional minutes.
If payment fails, you’ll have the option to update your card and retry.
When does the “Session timer” start?
Time is deducted from either the fixed amount purchased or from a subscription starting the moment “Start Stream” is pressed for the first time.
Subsequent stop/start stream actions do not pause the timer.
When streaming, “Adjust Sync”, speficially video, doesn't seem to do anything. Is it not working?
Humans are more sensitive to audio sync errors, so video delay changes are less immediately perceptible.
When adjusting A/V sync manually in our software, a small change in audio delay (e.g. 40–60 ms) can be very noticeable, especially if audio is ahead of the video. In contrast, video may need to be offset by a larger amount before users perceive a clear difference.
This is why both the Delay Audio and Delay Video settings offer the same 0–500 ms range, but you may find you need to apply a larger video delay to achieve the same perceptual correction as a smaller audio delay.
