Overview

Playback for Apple Playback TV v1.0 released March 6, 2026

v1.0 marks the first production release of the Apple TV playback app for Remoto.

Remoto Playback TV is a native Apple TV client designed for joining and viewing live Remoto sessions with low-latency streaming and a TV-optimized user experience.

This release introduces:

  • Native Apple TV client for joining and watching live sessions
  • Low-latency SRT playback powered by a native MediaMTX player integration
  • TV-optimized UX with focus-based navigation and Siri Remote support

The app is built using react-native-tvos with native tvOS player components to ensure platform consistency and performance.


System Requirements

  • Apple TV (4th generation or later)
  • tvOS (latest supported version recommended)
  • Active Remoto account
  • Network connection suitable for live SRT playback

 


Whats New

Authentication

  • Email and password sign-in
  • Forgot/reset password flow
  • Login challenge handling, including:
  • Accept terms
  • Set full name
  • Change password
  • Logout from other devices

Session Browsing

  • TV grid layout for browsing available sessions
  • Session status indicators:
  • Ready
  • Started
  • Scheduled
  • Finished
  • Joined
  • Active-session banner with quick return or leave actions

Join and Waiting Room Experience

  • Waiting room state while the host accepts access
  • Real-time join, deny, and session-end handling over WebSocket

Playback Experience

  • Full-screen streaming with stream state indicators
  • Auto-hide controls during active playback
  • Stream reconnect and retry handling for resilience
  • Foreground/background recovery to restore playback reliably

Participant Awareness

  • Participants drawer with role and status display
  • Real-time participant updates

Session-Level Playback Options

  • Support for watermark/IP identity overlay when enabled
  • Audio layout support, including:
    • 5.1
    • 7.1
    • 16-channel stereo pair selection

Known Issues

  • Talkback/PTT is not supported in this release.
  • Camera and full video-chat features are not available.
  • This version is playback-focused only.
