Technical Alerts & Best Practices
Network Considerations
⇒ Streaming over WiFi:
Streaming over WiFi may result in degraded performance due to network variability. A stable, high-bandwidth WiFi connection is recommended for the best playback experience.
Audio Monitoring & Playback
⇒ Bluetooth Headphones:
Using Bluetooth headphones (including AirPods) introduces inherent audio latency. For the most accurate monitoring experience, use wired headphones when possible.
⇒ Multichannel Audio:
The iOS app always receives a stereo stream. If the host is streaming surround sound (5.1 or 7.1), the server automatically folds the mix down to stereo before it reaches your device. Dialogue, music, and effects are all preserved. For full multichannel monitoring, use the Desktop application.
Session & Streaming
⇒ Talkback:
Talkback is controlled by the session host. Participants cannot enable talkback independently. When talkback is active, push-to-talk is available for participants to communicate with the host.
⇒ Streaming Type Compatibility:
The Playback Mobile app can only join sessions configured as Desktop & Web. Sessions configured as Desktop Only are not accessible from the mobile app.

New Features & Improvements
Mobile Screen Share Viewing
The mobile playback app now supports receiving and displaying active screen shares during a session. Users can switch between the main playback video and an active screen share, and the app can show who is sharing when participant metadata is available.
Screen share viewing works in standard session view, landscape layouts, and fullscreen mode.
When a screen share is active:
- A Main Video / Screen Share Video selector appears.
- Selecting Screen Share Video displays the shared screen in the main video area.
- The app may show a label such as “Morgan is sharing” when participant metadata is available.
- Users can return to the primary playback feed by selecting Main Video.
Behavior Notes
- Screen share state is updated from session WebSocket events and Agora stream lifecycle messages.
- If a screen share is already active when the user joins, the app attempts to hydrate that state after joining.
- Screen-share streams are treated separately from participant camera streams.
- The telestrator overlay remains available on the main playback video, but not over the screen-share view.
Bug Fixes & General Enhancements
Included in 1.2.0
- Screen shares now render in a dedicated viewer instead of competing with the main playback video surface.
- The app more reliably detects when a screen share starts or stops, including updates received over WebSocket and Agora lifecycle events.
- Screen-share video is subscribed at higher quality for better readability.
- Participant camera tiles are kept separate from screen-share streams, reducing layout and rendering issues.
- Telestrator drawing overlays are layered more reliably on top of the main video and are hidden while viewing a screen share.
Known Issues
Non-Critical
Audio does not play when iPhone is on silent mode: When the device's physical silent/mute switch is enabled, stream audio does not play. Other media apps (such as YouTube) play audio normally in silent mode. If the device is already on silent when joining a session, toggling the switch back to ring may not restore audio. If the device is switched to silent mid-session, toggling back to ring restores audio. Workaround: Ensure the device's silent switch is set to ring (unmuted) before joining a session. (REMT-9891)
No user-adjustable audio output settings: Output channel configuration and fold-down coefficients are not adjustable on the mobile app.
