This document is organized in 5 sections:

  • Technical Alerts & Best Practices - Crucial information and recommendations on how to configure and use the app to optimize its performance and your experience using it.
  • System Requirements
  • New Features & Improvements - A list and explanations of Playback Mobile improvements included in this release.
  • Bug Fixes & General Enhancements - A list of resolved items with their reference numbers.
  • Known Issues - A collection of known issues that we are tracking and working to resolve. This may not be a complete list, but rather curated with the most common issues experienced. If a workaround is available, it will be listed.

Technical Alerts & Best Practices

Network Considerations

⇒ Streaming over WiFi:
Streaming over WiFi may result in degraded performance due to network variability. A stable, high-bandwidth WiFi connection is recommended for the best playback experience.

Audio Monitoring & Playback

⇒ Bluetooth Headphones:
Using Bluetooth headphones (including AirPods) introduces inherent audio latency. For the most accurate monitoring experience, use wired headphones when possible.

⇒ Multichannel Audio:
The iOS app always receives a stereo stream. If the host is streaming surround sound (5.1 or 7.1), the server automatically folds the mix down to stereo before it reaches your device. Dialogue, music, and effects are all preserved. For full multichannel monitoring, use the Desktop application.

Session & Streaming

⇒ Talkback:
Talkback is controlled by the session host. Participants cannot enable talkback independently. When talkback is active, push-to-talk is available for participants to communicate with the host.

⇒ Streaming Type Compatibility:
The Playback Mobile app can only join sessions configured as Desktop & Web. Sessions configured as Desktop Only are not accessible from the mobile app.

⇒ Signing In on Multiple Devices:
If your account is already signed in on another device, Remoto will present an "Active Instance Detected" dialog when you sign in. Choose Full access to take over session control on this device, or Proceed in Scheduling Mode to manage upcoming sessions while your other sign-in keeps running.

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

⇒ MFA is verified once per signed-in session:
After you successfully complete an MFA challenge (at sign-in or when accessing a protected Team or session), Remoto does not ask again until you sign out or your application session expires.

⇒ Strongest policy wins:
When Personal, Team, Session, and Participant security settings differ, Remoto enforces the strongest applicable requirement. A lower-level setting cannot weaken a higher Team or account policy.

⇒ Backup codes are one-time use:
Store backup codes in a secure location when you generate them. Each code can be used only once. Generate a new set if you lose access to your authenticator app or email codes.

⇒ Protected Teams and sessions may be hidden until MFA is complete:
If a Team or session requires MFA and you have not completed MFA in the current signed-in session, Remoto may hide those items until you pass the challenge (for example, after selecting the Team or opening a protected session).

System Requirements

Playback Mobile (iOS)

Minimum Requirements:

iPhone

  • Requires iOS 15.1 or later.

iPad

  • Requires iPadOS 15.1 or later.

iPod touch

Requires iOS 15.1 or later.

Internet Connection: Required for session access and streaming

New Features & Improvements

Scheduler Access Mode

When Remoto detects that your account is already signed in elsewhere, you can choose how to continue on this device:

  • Force Log Out on Other Device — Sign out the other device and continue here with full Organizer/Guest permissions.
  • Proceed in Scheduling Mode — Keep the other sign-in running and continue here in scheduling mode with access appropriate for managing upcoming sessions, instead of being treated as a full Organizer on this device.

At sign-in, users can select the correct access mode. Scheduling mode flows also support sign-in from an invitation or deep link when that path is required.

In scheduling mode, you can create sessions (including Instant Session when presets exist), edit schedule details for Draft or Ready sessions, manage your contact list, and update your user profile. You cannot start or end a session, join a live session, or change stream settings from scheduling mode on this device.

Instant Session Creation

Users can create a company Instant Session from the app, including auth-mode resolution and protected-Team unlock when MFA policy requires it. Organizers in scheduling mode can create Instant Sessions from the app.

Configurable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

Company MFA policy can require verification at multiple points in Playback Mobile:

  • Sign-in — Email code, authenticator app, or backup code (including recovery when needed)
  • Team selection — Challenge MFA before accessing a protected Team
  • Viewing sessions in the Dashboard — Challenge MFA before opening or joining a protected session from the Dashboard
  • Joining sessions from email — Enforce the applicable security mode when joining from an invitation link or deep link

Users can also manage Personal MFA from Profile (enable/disable, authenticator setup, email MFA, and backup codes).

When multiple policies apply, Remoto uses the strongest requirement. MFA completed during the current signed-in session is remembered until logout or session expiry.

Team Invitation Management

Pending Team invitations appear in Profile → Products & Activity as Team Name (Pending). Selecting one opens a confirmation dialog; accepting joins the Team, refreshes Profile, and selects the accepted Team. Already-accepted and error cases are handled.

Leave Team

From Profile, a user can leave a Team they no longer need. The app confirms the action before completing the leave request and then refreshes the Team list.

Live Session & Account Updates

Live session and account updates now use a single shared real-time connection instead of fragmented per-flow connections. Reconnect behavior is improved (including after leaving a session), reconnect storms are reduced, and connection handling after sign-in is more stable.

Bug Fixes & General Enhancements

No bug fixes to issues present in Playback Mobile v1.2.0 are included in this release.

Known Issues

Non-Critical

Audio does not play when iPhone is on silent mode: When the device's physical silent/mute switch is enabled, stream audio does not play. Other media apps (such as YouTube) play audio normally in silent mode. If the device is already on silent when joining a session, toggling the switch back to ring may not restore audio. If the device is switched to silent mid-session, toggling back to ring restores audio. Workaround: Ensure the device's silent switch is set to ring (unmuted) before joining a session. (REMT-9891)

No user-adjustable audio output settings: Output channel configuration and fold-down coefficients are not adjustable on the mobile app.
