Alerts
⇒ Safari: We do not suggest Guests joining a session through Safari at this time.
⇒ Stream Setting changes: In order to change settings, it is no longer possible to access Stream Settings when a stream is active. If changes need to be made, stop the stream, access Stream Settings, modify and save any settings. Restart the stream when ready.
⇒ Playback Application: If the application has been left open for an extended period of time (i.e. over the weekend) it may become un-responsive, requiring the user to close the app and reopen.
⇒ Streaming over WiFi: Streaming over WIFI rather than a hardwired connection, may result in compromised stream performance reflecting WiFi performance issues.
⇒ Message: “It appears that you are currently signed in from another device. Do you want to sign out from that device and continue here?” Upon attempting to log back into Playback after an application crash, this message may appear. This is an expected message. If Playback quits unexpectedly, it may not gracefully log you out from our server, and you may still register as logged in. Click yes to proceed.
⇒ Playback's minimum app size is 1600x900 and is not responsive. If you are on a laptop with a smaller screen size using Playback Desktop and it is not fitting in your screen, please adjust your display size in System Settings to a resolution at least 1600x900.
⇒ Using NDI with Adobe Premiere: If Premiere is not actively playing content, Playback may present an error “Video Source Lost”. If this happens, stop the stream in Playback, restart your media in Premiere (play the media) and restart the stream.
⇒ Using Blackmagic Devices: When using Blackmagic devices, ensure the scan type in Remoto matches what DaVinci is sending. Progressive in DaVinci → select Progressive in Remoto. Interlaced in DaVinci → select Interlaced in Remoto. You can confirm the signal in the Desktop Video app. Mismatched settings will cause video stutter and audio dropouts.
⇒ Bluetooth Headphones: Using bluetooth headphones with Playback will result in some audio latency. This can be adjusted once the stream is live, using the "A/V Sync" adjustment settings.

New Features
Multi-Source Audio Streaming and Flexible Audio Group Selection
Playback 1.6 introduces Multi-Source Audio Streaming, a new way to monitor different audio versions within the same session. When a session is set to Desktop Only and the stream audio format is set to Passthrough, users will see a new Audio Groups option inside Alternate Speakers. Turning on Audio Groups reveals a dropdown menu where you can choose which specific stereo pair or multichannel format you want to listen to.

This feature is ideal for workflows where multiple mixes or versions are delivered at once, such as localization review, multi-language evaluations, or sessions where alternate stereo pairs or surround stems are included in the same stream. Users can switch between available groups at any time during a live session, allowing them to compare versions or focus on the format they need to hear.
The available channel layouts depend on the connected audio device and may range from stereo to high-channel-count formats. If the Organizer selects a full channel layout, Guests will be able to choose from all available audio groups.
Settings are saved automatically when starting or joining the session, and Audio Groups can also be changed from the Audio Controls panel in the Studio once the session is running.
For Organizers
Organizers can send multiple mixes or formats from their host program within a single stream by selecting Passthrough and choosing a wide channel layout. When Audio Groups is turned on, all available stereo pairs or formats can be made accessible to Guests. This gives Organizers the flexibility to support complex review sessions such as multi-language playback, mix comparisons, and QC of alternate versions. Organizers can also switch between audio groups during the session and can guide Guests on which group they should monitor.
For example:
Set Audio Input to ProTools Audio Bridge 16, and route your tracks in your DAW (or NLE) as follows:
- ProTools Audio Bridge 16 1-2: Stereo English Program
- ProTools Audio Bridge 16 3-4: Stereo Spanish Program
- ProTools Audio Bridge 16 5-6: Stereo French Program
- ProTools Audio Bridge 16 7-12: 5.1 English Program
For Guests
Guests can now choose the exact audio version they want to monitor during a session. When Audio Groups is available, a dropdown menu (Either in Call and Stream Preferences when entering a session, or in the session studio itself from the Audio Controls panel) allows selection of a specific stereo pair or format such as a language track, alternate mix, or surround layout.
Guests can change their selection at any time during the session using the Audio Controls panel. This ensures that each participant can listen to the correct mix for their role in the review process and can independently switch between formats if needed.
For example:
To monitor a Spanish stereo mix using built-in speakers (continuing with the Organizer example above):
- Select Built-In Output as the alternate speaker
- Set stream mode to Passthrough
- Enable Audio Groups
- Set Input: 3–4 (Spanish)
- Set Output: 1–2
To monitor a 5.1 English mix using a multichannel interface:
- Select the system’s multichannel output device
- Set stream mode to Passthrough
- Enable Audio Groups
- Set Input: 7–12 (5.1 English)
- Set Output: 1–6, or route to any preferred outputs
These same controls are also available to the Organizer, making it easy to verify alternate audio configurations or monitor different mixes throughout the session.
Redesigned Account Activation for New Guest Users
We have redesigned the onboarding experience to make joining a Remoto session easier and smoother than ever. With Playback 1.6, new users no longer have to manage temporary credentials or navigate extra steps. Everything you need to join a session is now built right into the Join Session button or link in your invitation.
If your access link is still valid, you will be guided through a simple, streamlined account activation flow where you enter your information and create a password. If your activation credentials have expired, the browser will let you know that an account is required and will automatically send a fresh activation link to your email. As soon as you finish activating your account, you will be taken straight into the session you were trying to join.
This update removes friction, shortens onboarding time, and gives new participants a much clearer and more welcoming first experience with Remoto.
Smarter and More Organized Log File Management
Playback 1.6 brings a cleaner, more reliable logging experience that makes it easier for users and support teams to find the information they need. The entire log system has been redesigned to stay organized automatically, with old files removed after seven days and each file capped at 10 MB to prevent unnecessary disk usage. Logs are now stored in a dedicated Remoto folder on your device and are named with clear timestamps, which makes locating and sharing the right file much easier.
These improvements help keep your system tidy while giving you and our support team faster access to accurate troubleshooting information whenever it is needed. The result is a more streamlined experience that reduces clutter and simplifies the entire support workflow.
What’s improved:
• Automatic cleanup of log files older than seven days
• Smaller, more efficient files capped at 10 MB each
• Dedicated storage folder at /Library/Logs/Remoto/RemotoPlayback/
• Clear timestamped filenames for quick identification
Example: RemotoPlayback_2025_09_15_18_33_22_679.log
Small but Mighty Changes
Alongside the larger updates in Playback 1.6, we have also added a smaller improvement that brings meaningful quality of life benefits to session workflows.
Timecoded Markers on Desktop for More Session Types
Timecoded Markers were previously limited to sessions set to the Desktop Only streaming type. With Playback 1.6, any user joining with the Desktop application can now create markers in sessions configured with Desktop & Web. This gives more participants the ability to add notes, mark important moments, and contribute to shared review workflows without requiring a Desktop Only stream.
This update expands flexibility for mixed-device sessions and makes timecoded feedback easier for more users across more types of projects.
Bug Fixes
Included in 1.6(.0)
Invalid 4:2:2 Selection Allowed in Standalone 4:2:0 Sessions: Fixed an issue when standalone sessions restricted to 4:2:0 chroma subsampling allowed Organizers to select and save 4:2:2 in Stream Settings. The system would silently revert to 4:2:0 without notifying the user, causing confusion since both OTS types appeared identical in the UI. This behavior has now been corrected. (REMT-8397)
Known Issues
Critical
Audio gaps in Remoto Playback stream on macOS Ventura + Sequoia (Silicon only): On Apple Silicon Macs running macOS Ventura or macOS Sequoia, the user may experience occasional audio gaps that can be perceived as small clicks (similar to a sample rate issue). The issue affects Desktop Only and Desktop and Web session sessions, and affects both Organizer and Guest users. It does not occur on Intel Macs or on macOS Sonoma. Current workaround is to update OS. (REMT-7222)
Passwordless access join issue (Desktop app only): If a Guest is attempting to join a session (no password required) using the Desktop application, initiated from the email invitation, less than 15 minutes before the session is scheduled to start, if the Organizer has NOT already started the session, the Organizer will not receive a join request (even after they enter the session) and the Guest will be stuck in the waiting room. If the Guest has a Remoto account, the workaround is to not use the join link in the email invitation, but log in and join the session directly from the Desktop application. If the Guest does NOT have an account, they should try joining through the link again. Once the session has been started, the Organizer will see the join request and admit them. (REMT-7357)
Non-Critical
Output dropdown does not appear when enabling Audio Groups during a live session: When a user enables Audio Groups from Audio Controls during a session, the Input dropdown appears immediately, but the Output dropdown does not display. The Output options only appear after the user manually changes the Input selection, which forces the UI to refresh. This issue occurs only when Audio Groups is enabled after entering the Studio; it does not occur if Audio Groups was enabled at join time. The issue is 100 percent reproducible. Workaround: Change the Input selection to any other option, then re-select the desired Input. This refreshes the UI and reveals the Output dropdown. (REMT-8695)
Presets have backwards compatibility issues across builds: Presets created in older builds (e.g., 1.5.0.43) may not fully load in newer builds (e.g., 1.6.0.25). After saving, the session stays in “Draft” due to missing fields in Stream Settings (Streaming Canvas, Streaming Frame Rate, Video Source Frame Rate). Manually filling in the fields and saving again resolves the issue. (REMT-6832)
Visible video artifacts for Guests when streaming 4K in sessions with viewer type “Desktop & Web”: In sessions created with Desktop & Web viewer type using a 4K/UHD streaming canvas, Guests see visible video artifacts during playback (blockiness, tearing). This does not occur when streaming at 2K, and does not occur at 4K when using viewer type Desktop Only. Issue appears specific to 4K in Desktop and Web session, and may be bitrate-sensitive. Lowering the canvas to 2K resolves the issue for now. (REMT-8448)
Skipped video frames on Organizer side during long sessions when using Blackmagic as the streaming source: During extended streaming sessions, the Organizer’s local video may intermittently skip or drop frames when using a Blackmagic device as the video streaming source. This has been observed only on Apple Silicon machines and may occur in both Desktop Only (DO) and Desktop + Web (DW) session types, particularly when streaming at 2K DCI resolution or higher. Audio remains stable, and Guests continue receiving a smooth, uninterrupted stream. Workaround: Stop and restart the stream to restore smooth playback. (REMT-8454)
Blackmagic SDI audio input causes frozen frame on stream start:Selecting Blackmagic SDI as the audio input type in Stream Settings causes the video to freeze at a single frame when the stream starts. This happens when Blackmagic is used for both video and audio. Workaround: In Stream Settings, set the Audio Input Type to Virtual Audio Device, then choose Blackmagic as the audio source (the option that does not say “Audio Capture”) before starting the stream.(REMT-8483)
Streaming Audio using NDI as the source is not working: Do not use NDI as an audio source - When setting up a session using NDI as the audio source, the stream is lost when attempting to start the stream. This also makes the start/stop stream button unresponsive, rendering the session unusable. There is no workaround at this time. (REMT-8318)
Participant List shows incorrect mic status when Talkback is enabled before streaming: If the Organizer enables Talkback before the stream starts, the Participant List does not update correctly. Guest microphone indicators appear unmuted, even though Talkback mode has muted them. No workaround at this time. (REMT-8081)
Disable Camera/Microphone checkboxes not saving in Preferences: When adjusting Call and Stream preferences from the Preferences tab in the Dashboard, changes to the camera and microphone checkboxes do not save and revert to their default unticked state. These preferences should be honored when joining a session, but currently the selected settings are not retained. (REMT-6589)
Video Chat - Camera indicator is ON even if camera is OFF in video chat: If someone turns their video camera off in video chat, the camera indicator light of a built in camera erroneously will remain on. (REMT-4422)
